Amy Lowery, LMFT: Therapist and Practice Owner
Like many specialized providers, we are transitioning to out-of-network status.
Paying out-of-pocket allows you greater privacy, flexibility, and control over your care- without the limitations that often come with insurance. This means we can focus fully on your goals, timeline, and treatment plan without the need for a diagnosis or external approval.
Aligned EMDR & Counseling is in the process of ending our in-network status with insurance companies and moving to a fully private pay model. We are no longer accepting new clients using insurance.
FAQs

I don’t accept insurance, so I’m considered an out-of-network provider. However, if your insurance plan includes out-of-network benefits, you may be eligible for partial reimbursement. I’m happy to provide a monthly receipt (also called a superbill) that you can submit to your insurance company.
Payment is due in full at the time of each session.

Here are some questions you can ask your insurance about Out-of-Network Benefits:
Do I have out-of-network mental health benefits for outpatient therapy?
(CPT code to reference: 90837 for a 60-minute session.)Is there a deductible I need to meet before reimbursement begins?
If yes: How much is it, and how much have I met so far?
What percentage of the therapy fee will be reimbursed once I meet the deductible?
(Is it based on the therapist's fee or an “allowed amount” set by the insurance company?)
Is there a limit to the number of sessions covered per year?
Do I need prior authorization or a referral from a primary care provider?
Are there specific forms I need to submit for reimbursement?
Where do I send the superbill or receipt? Can I submit it online?
What is the timeline for reimbursement after I submit a claim?
How will I receive reimbursement (check, direct deposit, etc.)?
Do I need to include a diagnosis code on the receipt?
(Most insurance companies require one, so it’s good for clients to be aware.)

Because of licensing regulations, therapists can only work with clients who live in the state(s) where they are licensed. I am licensed to practice in North Carolina, so to work together, you’ll need to reside in that state.

Of course! Before scheduling a therapy session, I offer a free 15-minute consultation callto all potential new clients. This is a chance for us to get to know each other and make sure that your needs and goals align with what I can offer as a therapist.
During the call, I’ll ask a few questions about what’s bringing you to therapy and answer any questions you may have. If it turns out that I’m not the right fit, I’m happy to provide referrals to other therapists who may be a better match.
